The fact that the German coastal landscapes do not necessarily have to be flat disproves, for example, the island Rügen. Our relief postcard Vorpommern coast in the scale 1:900.000 presents you the unique variety of the largest German island and the enchanting surrounding countryside.
Tips and suggestions for your stay in the region can be found here:
56 kilometers of a total of 574 kilometers of coastline on the island of Rügen consist of the finest sandy beaches.
Also, there are about 30 kilometers of natural and Bodden beaches. No wonder that every year about 1.4 million sun-seekers make their way to Rügen or the island of Hiddensee. Anyway, the lovely sun means very well with the region. In 2016, the approximately 70,000 inhabitants were pampered with an average of over 2,000 hours of sunshine, which means Germany has an absolute top position. Of course, the chalk cliffs on Jasmund are legendary. The uniqueness of this picturesque and yet very transient coastal landscape with the Jasmund National Park was put under nature protection in 1990. Also, the beech forests on the Jasmund were awarded the status of Unesco Natural Heritage in 2011. Perhaps not the fastest but certainly the most nostalgic means of transport on the island is the Rasende Roland. Since the end of the 18th century, the puffing steam horses have been transporting goods and people between Göhren and Putbus.
But even the few bad weather days on the island are not to be feared. The German Oceanographic Museum Stralsund offers unbelievable insights into the world of the oceans in four different exciting exhibitions. The Störtebeker Festival on the natural stage in Ralswiek is a breathtaking experience for spectators evening after evening. Over 150 participants, 30 horses, wild stunts, 4 ships and a gigantic fireworks display over the Jasmund Bodden leave lasting impressions on young and old.
